It remains Yusef Lateef’s sole album for the Charlie Parker label and captures the tenor saxophonist in spirited, first-rate form. Concentrating entirely on tenor, Lateef swings with authority on a set rooted in straight-ahead modern jazz, providing a valuable snapshot of his more traditional side just before he began to more fully explore global and spiritual elements.
