Hadley Caliman had paid his dues by 1977: raised on tenor by Dexter Gordon, seasoned in Gerald Wilson's orchestra, and called on for sessions with Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, and Santana. Recorded for the west coast Catalyst label, ‘Celebration’ finds his tenor and flute locked in with Elvin Jones at the kit and Hotep Cecil Barnard on piano. One of the great undiscovered sessions of the spiritual jazz era, and a collector's obscurity for far too long.
