Recorded in 1974, Immanuel’s Manual captures Cornish progressive group Marvelous Kid at their most developed, after the band had moved into the London underground circuit. Their Canterbury-influenced sound had become looser and more jazz-minded, with long pieces leaving plenty of room for the group to stretch out. Pete Davey, formerly of Patto, brings saxophone and flute into a sound already shaped by keyboards, guitar and years of playing together. Recorded in the band’s own home studio and unreleased at the time, these four pieces preserve an exceptional lost chapter of the British progressive underground.
